Because Microsoft is constantly updating and improving Office 365, York University cannot fully support every service Microsoft offers. Here are the current support tiers for Office 365 services:

Support Tiers

Fully supported services are those which York University will provide training, solve problems, answer questions, and make usage/configuration recommendations.

Fully supported services include:

1. Outlook & Outlook Online

Microsoft Outlook is a personal information manager from Microsoft, available as a part of the Microsoft Office suite.

Although often used mainly as an email application, Outlook also enables calendaring, task and contact management, note taking, journaling, and web browsing. You can access your email through Outlook's desktop client (installed as part of the Office 2016 application suite), or through the Office 365 portal.

2. Microsoft 2016 & Office Online

Microsoft Office is a suite of applications, servers, and services. This suite includes desktop and online versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel,  and OneNote. This suite also includes a desktop-only version of Publisher 2016 for Windows machines.

3. OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business makes it easy for you to work, share, and manage all your files.
With OneDrive for business you can: 

  • Easily store and access your files from all your devices
  • Share files and collaborate on documents with anyone inside or outside of your organization
  • Quickly find files, photos, and documents from personalized search results powered by the intelligence of the Microsoft Graph
  • Keep your company data protected with advanced encryption, compliance, and security features

Teams

Microsoft Teams is a chat-based collaboration tool that is part of the Office 365 suite of services. Teams enables local and remote co-workers to work together in real and near-real time. Teams allows you to see content and chat history anytime in team chat or in private chat. Schedule small group or team meetings. Post an email in the thread to keep the team in the loop. Search for public teams to collaborate on shared projects. Host and pin documents and use teams to collaborate and edit them real time.

SharePoint

Microsoft SharePoint it as a secure place to store, organize, share, and access information from any device.

SharePoint enables you to easily create and manage custom team-focused and project-focused sites for collaboration. In addition, it’s possible to deploy an organization-wide intranet portal used to share information and news across your department.

With SharePoint you can:

  1. Easily create and manage lists
  2. Co-author and co-edit documents live
    • SharePoint allows multiple people to work together on a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, or PowerPoint presentation at the same time and without worrying about version control

OneNote Class Notebook

OneNote Class Notebook is a personal workspace for every student, a content library for handouts, and a collaboration space for lessons and creative activities.

Features Highlight

  1. Instructors can embed audio and video recordings to directly into their notes to create rich interactive lessons for students
  2. No need for printouts; students can access quizzes and lessons right from the app!
  3. You can easily keep track of your students' progress and leave them notes directly in their notebooks!

Skype for Business

Microsoft has begun the process of replacing Skype for Business with Teams. As a result, result, we are discouraging use of Skype for Business and will be supporting Teams as our collaboration and chat client. To find out more about Microsoft Teams, click here!

Forms

Microsoft Forms is a simple, lightweight tool that lets you easily create surveys, quizzes, and polls. Forms allows you to collect customer feedback, measure employee satisfaction and organize team events. You can create a survey in minutes with no training needed, and respondents can fill it out on any browser without having to install a separate app.

Planner

Planner offers a simple, highly visual way to organize teamwork and collaborate on projects effectively. It allows you to:

  3. Share files

Delve allows users to stay connected with each other. Delve will dynamically compile and present to users documents that other members of their team have been working on. You can also create and manage profiles showing experience and expertise, and search this information to find someone by their unique skills. Note: Delve will never show anyone anything they do not have permissions to see.
