The objective of the Office 365 project is to deliver a secure, flexible and easy to use communication channel that allows for improved access to information and technology while delivering a superior experience for staff and faculty.
Office 365 is a professionally supported software suite that offers dynamic functionality, enhanced mobile capabilities, more reliable security and increased data storage.
In 2015, recognizing a community-wide desire for a change in email and calendaring platforms, York began reviewing alternative email clients. A group of academic and administrative leaders assessed competing services, spoke with their communities, reviewed the experiences of other universities and concluded that Microsoft Office 365 would best satisfy the evolving needs of our University.
Many users in our community have already been upgraded to Office 2016, but this is only a part of the transition to Office 365.
Starting in fall 2017, Microsoft Outlook will replace Lotus Notes as the University's standard for email and calendaring, it will also open new avenues for collaboration across our campuses. For this change to take place, all university mail will need to be migrated from Lotus Notes to the new Office environment.
The Lotus Notes email-migration process will begin in September, and will be scheduled on a departmental basis. You will be contacted by your department’s representative regarding your migration time slot. A comprehensive migration schedule will be posted in the coming weeks.
